Metra Northwest Lines Halted Due to Storms

A line of fast-moving severe thunderstorms rolled through the area this morning.

UPDATE: Two northwest line Chicago trains, #636 and #640, originally slated to arrive into Chicago at 10:23 a.m. and 11:23 a.m. will now be expressing into Chicago after a delay. 

Train 636 is 180 minutes late. Train 640 is 95 minutes and will be making every scheduled stop into the city.

The Metra Northwest line has halted some of its trains this morning due to high winds from severe weather passing through the area.

The Metra Northwest line announced it has halted inbound and outbound trains north of Barrington to Harvard and McHenry. The announcement was posted at 7:51 a.m. on  Metra's website.

Delays are anticipated to last between 45 and 60 minutes. To view updates from Metra, visit the Metra's service updates Web page.

The fast-moving severe thunderstorm that rolled through the area was capable of producing winds as high as 70 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

The worst of the storm has moved out of McHenry County. A severe thunderstorm watch is now in effect through 12 p.m.
