Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: Chynnah Henn and her family created the "Gilded Apple" award and presented it to her 8th grade math teacher, Craig Pate, at the recent Consolidated School District 158 Board meeting. Henn credited Pate for helping her with her reading and writing studies.

"I have trouble reading and writing," Henn told the board. "Mr. Pate stayed after school to help me."

Pate, who oversees Marlowe's after-school Homework Club, said he was surprised and honored by Chynnah's award.

"I still can't believe she did that," Pate said. "She's normally shy and reserved, and to get up in front of all the adults at the board meeting and give a lengthy speech was very meaningful and very memorable."

Whiz Kid's Key To Awesomeness: Pate said Chynnah had the best attendance of all the Homework Club participants. He credited her drive, hard work and diligence for the exceptional strides she made this school year, which included making the Marlowe Principal's List. The Principal's List is comprised of students who've earned a grade point average of 3.80 or above.
