Living History Event Today at Powers-Walker House in Glacial Park

See historical artifacts and learn more about the local families who donated them during this event scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 19.

 

May has been designated as "Look at Local History Month," and what better way to learn about McHenry County history than visiting the Powers-Walker House in Glacial Park?

The McHenry County Conservation District has planned a Living History event from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at the Powers-Walker home. The Greek revival house, circa 1854, is located at Glacial Park, a 3,382-acre conservation area located at Route 31 & Harts Road, Ringwood

MCCD will feature a “Restoration Showcase” of the house, its donated artifacts and information about the local families who donated the items. Volunteers in historical attire will be on hand to answer visitor's questions.

Guests are invited to drop in any time. A special presentation is planned for 2 p.m.

Upcoming Living History Events:

July 14th open house will feature the Schaeffer and Steinmetz families who lived in the area during the World War II era.

August 11th will feature the Miller family who resided in the area during the World War I era. Volunteers in historical attire will be on hand to answer your questions.
