LITH Sees Worst Jobless Rate of Year in August

In August, 8.9 percent of Lake in the Hills residents were unemployed compared to 8.8 percent in the county, 9.9 percent in the state and 9.1 percent nationally.

Lake in the Hills’ jobless rate in August reached its highest point so far in 2011.

The village’s preliminary unemployment numbers for August show a jobless rate of 8.9 percent, or 1,515 residents, compared with a rate of 8.8 percent, or 1,503 residents, without jobs in July, according to revised Illinois Department of Employment Security numbers. 

The most promising rate Lake in the Hills saw in the past nine months came in December 2010, when 7.1 percent of the village was unemployed.

In July, McHenry County had 16,464 unemployed residents, or 9.1 percent of the county's population, according to IDES. Preliminary numbers for August show the jobless rate improved to 8.8 percent or 15,801 residents without jobs.

Both Lake in the Hills and McHenry County jobless rates for August fell below the state average of 9.9 percent and the national average of 9.1 percent.
