LITH Pond Hockey Tournament Postponed

The tournament, which had been scheduled for this weekend, will be postponed until Feb. 2.

Those who had been gearing up for the Lake in the Hills Pond Hockey Tournament —which had been scheduled for this weekend— will have to wait at least another couple weeks to hit the ice.

The original tournament date set for this Saturday has been re-scheduled for Feb. 2 since the ice on Woods Creek Lake is not thick enough, said Trevor Bosak, with the Lake in the Hills Parks and Recreation Department, in an e-mail.

"We currently have 6 inches of ice...we need at least 8 inches in order to run the tournament," Bosack said.

There's still much more ice on Woods Creek Lake this year compared to last year when the pond hockey tournament was cancelled.

"I think that last year due to unseasonable warmth we didn’t have much ice at all," he said.

The pond hockey tournament is only in its third year and if conditions improve in the coming weeks, will be held off of Indian Trail Beach on Woods Creek Lake. If conditions stay the same or get worse, the tournament will again be cancelled.

There are currently 14 teams signed up for the tournament. All games have two 15-minute halves with a 2 minute halftime and the tournament will start at 8 a.m. on Feb. 2.

The winning team will be honored on the ice during the National Anthem at the February 17 Chicago Wolves game.
