LITH Residents, Businesses Push Through Power Outages

The Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Interfaith Food Pantry closed Tuesday due to a power outage.

Residents, businesses and volunteer organizations in Lake in the Hills on Tuesday continued to deal with outages that have plagued the Chicago suburbs since Monday morning.

As of 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, some had been without power for as much as 34 hours as ComEd crews work around the clock to restore electricity to the 330,000 customers still affected throughout the area.

A power outage forced the closure of the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Food Pantry on Oak Street. A sign on the door notified potential shoppers that the facility was closed.

At the , 2102 Algonquin Road, power was on and the business was serving customers. But right next door at , 2104 Algonquin Road, the doors were locked due to a phone outage.

In the neighborhood behind the Algonquin Road strip mall, the sound of generators filled the air.

And at Jacquelyn Weaver’s house, 305 Oak Leaf, Jeffrey A. Griebel, of Marengo, was trying to get his generator running to help Jacquelyn, his girlfriend.

“I have no idea why it’s not working,” Griebel said. “I brought ice and this generator. We’ve been cooking fish, chicken, hot dogs and brats on the grill for food.”

At the time, Weaver was at her mother’s house nearby, helping her pack refrigerator food into a cooler, Griebel said.
