UPDATE: Indian Trail Beach Closed Due to Bacteria Levels

The McHenry County Department of Health conducts beach samplings throughout the summer.

Update 11:04 a.m.: The McHenry County Department of Health has closed Indian Trail Beach due to high bacteria levels. The MCDH re-sampled the beach Thursday and posted the results Friday on its website. North Beach 1, Silver Lake, in Cary also has been closed.

The McHenry County Department of Health has issued an advisory for one LITH beach after finding high levels of bacteria in the water.

is on advisory after a Wednesday sampling by the health department of the county's 36 beaches.

The health department was expected to re-sample the beach Thursday. Results from the sample will be posted today on the health department's website, according to a news release.

The health department closed two beaches after Wednesday's sampling due to high bacteria levels. Those beaches are:

  • North Beach 1, Silver Lake, Cary 
  • Highland Shores Beach, Wonder Lake

One beach was opened:

  • Lehman’s Beach, Lehman’s Lakeside Resort, Marengo 

Three more beaches were put on advisory:

  • Lake Killarney East, Lake Killarney
  • Deep Spring Woods 1, Wonder Lake
  • Wonder Center, Wonder Lake
