I-90 Construction Almost Done

Overnight lane closures are scheduled to remove the work zone and shift traffic back to the normal roadway configuration.

The Illinois Tollway today announced that roadwork will be complete in the eastbound lanes of the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) between the Elgin Toll Plaza and Barrington Road and the work zone removed by 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12.  Roadwork completion and removal of the work zone in the westbound lanes is scheduled by 5 a.m. on Friday, October 14.  Work on the I-90 Roadway and Bridge Rehabilitation Project is being completed on time and within budget.

"These repairs are necessary to keep pavement on this 52-year-old roadway in good driving condition as we prepare to begin rebuilding and widening the corridor from Rockford to O'Hare in 2013 as part of the Move Illinois Program," said Illinois Tollway Executive Director Kristi Lafleur in a press release.

Overnight lane closures are scheduled on Tuesday night, Oct. 11, to remove the work zone and shift traffic back to the normal roadway configuration. Overnight work requires closing one eastbound lane at 8 p.m., with a second lane closing at 10 p.m.  All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. on Wednesday, October 12.

A similar schedule will be in place on Thursday night, Oct.13, to remove the remaining work zone and shift westbound traffic. All lanes westbound will reopen by 5 a.m. on Friday, October 14.   Some off-peak shoulder closures will be needed in the following weeks to complete punch list work for storm sewer cleaning.

The $65 million I-90 Roadway and Bridge Rehabilitation Project is repairing and resurfacing 27 miles of mainline pavement and rehabilitating 25 bridge structures on segments between the Elgin Toll Plaza and Barrington Road and between Genoa Road and U.S. Route 20. The 10-mile segment between the Elgin Toll Plaza and Barrington Road is the first to be completed. Farther west, the section between Genoa Road and U.S. Route 20 is on schedule to be complete by the end of October.
