Historic Rainfall Recorded At O’Hare

Flash flood warnings continue.

Chicago may have set a new record for the most rainfall in a calendar day, according to the Chicago Weather Center at WGN. This morning, 6.97 inches of rain were recorded at O’Hare International Airport. And more rain is expected today. The records needed to be checked before the measurement is official.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for the Chicago area, including McHenry, Lake and Cook counties. The warning is in effect until 12:30 p.m. today.

Excessive runoff from the storm could cause flooded roadways. NWS warns drivers not to drive over areas where water covers the roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross.
