Heavy Rain Advisory Issued for County Beaches

High bacteria counts can occur after heavy rainfall.

Following heavy rainfall over the past couple days, the McHenry County Health Department issued a heavy rain advisory for all of the county's beaches Friday.

The potential for high bacteria (E. coli) counts increases after high amounts of rain, according to the McHenry County Health Department news release. Swimming in such water can increase the risk of poor health, such as gastrointestinal illness and ear nose and throat infections.

The health department recommends not swimming in beaches at least two to three days after a heavy rainfall.
