Founders' Days Profile: Honoree - Jerry Glogowski

The honoree is a resident of the village who has made contributions to the community through the years, helping to make Algonquin a better community to live.

The 2011 Founders’ Committee has named Jerry Glogowski as the Founders’ Honoree.

Volunteerism has always been a part of Jerry’s life. It blossomed back in the 90s when he served as President of Southport Village Town-home Association in Island Lake. He worked with village officials and succeeded to have the developer stabilize the shore banks to prevent erosion problems along the community pond and additional street lights in the surrounding neighborhood.

After extensive searching, Jerry and his wife, Beth, relocated to Algonquin in 1997. Jerry is employed by Siemens Industries in Elgin and works as a Proposal Specialist/Application Engineer in After-Market Sales.

When Jerry became an “Algonquinite,” he immediately proceeded in being involved with the community as an activist.

Along with other residents, he fought to support open space plans instead of town-home development on Huntington and Circle Drives (now Hill Climb Park). Traffic concerns were another hot topic issue he confronted and he feels the need to continue to work together is essential for the success of any major project.

Jerry knew he wanted to be more involved within the Algonquin community, so he became a member of the Algonquin Lions Club in 2003. For two years he served as its president and co-chaired the committee to hold the Algonquin Hill Climb Events for three years. He continues to work hard and supports goals that serve the community.

When he decided to enter the political arena, he won election as a village trustee in 2005 and continues to serve to this day. During this time span he graduated from the “Ted Spella” Community Leadership School. He is also a long time member of the McHenry County Defenders and support their work on environmental issues to preserve, protect, and educate.
