LITH Street Market Opens This Weekend

Lake in the Hills' new street market opens on Illinois Route 31.

Local businessman Tony Sarillo has spent the past year researching flea markets in Kane County, Rosemont and as far away as New York to prepare for the new Lake in the Hills Street Market.

The grand opening of LITH’s Street Market, at 8601 S. Route 31, is scheduled this Saturday and Sunday, July 9-10.

“We really have been doing a lot of research on what works and what doesn't for these markets,” Sarillo said. “We’re going to have a wide variety of offerings including antiques, jewelry, clothing and artwork.”

Sarillo said he has monetary deposits from 50 vendors, and verbal commitments from 200 vendors. Food booth owners, selling sandwiches and drinks, also have agreed to set up for the grand opening weekend.

Market organizers are working with an organic farmer to bring locally grown produce to the sale, Sarillo said.

Street Market Location

The market will be set up on about five of 20 acres owned by Plote Inc. on Route 31, approximately one-half mile south of U.S. 14. The market site is south of Whispering Hills Nursery, which is across the road from Wal-Mart.

“We will have people directing traffic, helping people park,” Sarillo said.

The Lake in the Hills Street Market will be open the second and fourth weekend of each month. Sale hours are from noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays, and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays. Admission is free.
