Flash Flood Warning in Effect for Area

Up to four inches fell in portions of area over two-hour period.

A flash flood warning is in effect for southeastern McHenry County, northwestern Cook County and Lake and Kane counties through 9 p.m. 

The National Weather Service is reporting three to four inches of rain fell over portions of eastern McHenry County and northeastern Kane County between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m.  High winds and hails was also reported throughout the area.

The excessive rainfall could cause flash flooding in low-lying areas, small creeks and streams, underpasses and viaducts and rural roads and farmlands near creeks, according to the NWS.

The National Weather Service also noted that the Fox River north of Elgin and its tributaries from eastern McHenry County through Northwest Lake County will likely experience flash flooding.

The National Weather Service is warning residents not to drive their vehicles into area where water covers the area since the depth might not allow the car to cross safely and urging campers and hikers to avoid streams and creeks.
