Concrete and Asphalt Recycling Facility Eyed for Route 31

Preliminary plans being reviewed by Lake in the Hills village staff.

An asphalt and concrete recycling facility is being eyed for construction on the west side of Route 31 near Trinity Drive in Lake in the Hills.

Plans for the facility on the 19-acre parcel, owned by James Krueger, are not finalized yet, but it would be operated by Southwind RAS LLC, said Lake in the Hills Community Development Director Dan Olson. The petitioner is Rich Guerard of Guerard, Kalina & Butkus of Wheaton.

The village received a petition for annexation with rezoning of the land, a request for a conditional use permit, and a plan for an asphalt shingle recycling facility on the site at 8813 S. Route 31, Olson said.

In May, the Cary Village Board voted to disconnect the parcel, making way for the potential of building the facility in Lake in the Hills.

The application and plans are under review by village staff, Olson said. A public hearing will be set before the village’s planning and zoning commission once plans are finalized, with no hearing date set yet.

The commission will give its recommendation to the Lake in the Hills Village Board for review and a vote will be taken.
