Boulder Ridge Ousts Old Property Association Board

In a rare vote on June 7, 280 residents living within the Boulder Ridge community voted for five new members to take over the property association's board of directors.

After unrest over higher assessment costs in the affluent Boulder Ridge community, residents voted out the former property association board during a meeting last week.

Residents living in three subdivisions within Boulder Ridge — which is made up of 533 homeowners — voted in person and by proxy during a meeting held at the Boulder Ridge Country Club June 7.

In total, 280 voted for five new members to take over the board and 75 voted for the former board members to stay in their seats, said Patrick Loveless, the new president of the Boulder Ridge POA board of directors.

“We were just neighbors that saw things differently,” Loveless said. “We live in a great community—I feel honored and privalaged to live here. I just hope we (the new board) will be able to do a better job of not raising the assessments.”

Bob Seiser, the new treasurer on the board, said the push to elect a new board came after enough people living in two of the three subdivisions within the community — the Fairways and Greens subdivisions — were frustrated with the old board’s lack of transparency.

Specifically, they wanted a better idea of how their money was being spent on upkeep of the infrastructure within the affluent community. And felt it was unfair the third subdivision within Boulder Ridge — the Estates — had an unfair advantage with three Estates members on the old board and because Estates' residents paid a single assessment annually compared to the two assessments Greens and Fairways residents paid.

“The folks of the Fairways and Greens, they don’t feel like they have a voice,” said Seiser in an interview prior to the June 7 meeting.

Tom Murphy, former Boulder Ridge POA president, was not immediately available for comment.

The old board consisted of three members living in the Estates, one living in the Greens and one living in the Fairways. The new board is made up of two Greens residents and three Fairways residents.
