A decent weekend can be expected overall with a slim chance of a few shower or sprinkles Saturday morning and again Sunday morning near a weak frontal boundary.

Temperatures will average closer to normal over the next several days with lower levels of humidity.

Saturday: Partly to mostly cloudy with a 25 percent chance of a few sprinkles or perhaps a light shower from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

      Rain Amounts: Trace to 0.15 inches

      Low temp: 70 degrees Fahrenheit. 

      High temp: 86 degrees Fahrenheit. 

      Wind: East to southeast winds at 5-10 mph

Sunday: Partly sunny with a 30 percent chance of a few showers and possibly a t-storm from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.

      Rain Amounts: 0.05 to 0.25 inches

      Low temp: 73 degrees Fahrenheit. 

      High temp: 83 degrees Fahrenheit.

      Wind: Southwest at 8-13 mph with gusts to 20 mph, shifting northwest by 2 p.m.

General Weather Discussion for the Week Ahead

The same old frontal boundary that has been parked over the Upper Midwest will begin to shift south over the next few days as a ridge of high pressure dominates. This is good news for us because we will likely see a break in our active pattern and enjoy more quiet time.

On the weather map this morning, showers and t-storms are occurring over the central and southern Midwest with much of this rain expected to stay south of the local area. The south and southwest suburbs may experience a few sprinkles and showers, but will probably stay along and south of I-80 with rain chances diminishing up toward the north half of the area outside of a few raindrops possible. With winds off the lake, this will keep temperatures from skyrocketing and remain closer to normal over the next five to ten days.

Much of the weekend looks good with possibly just a few chances of showers for a time Saturday morning and again during the first half of Sunday. Rain will likely be in a weakening phase with the best chances of rain over the southern suburbs and into northwest Indiana.

As the high pressure ridge becomes reestablished, several quiet days are expected next week with just a few chances of t-storms returning on Tuesday and possibly again by Friday night and Saturday as the front lifts back north into our area.

Since the heat dome will be shifting away from our region, this will allow for more tolerable temperatures with highs possibly in the upper 70s and lower 80 through much of the of week as winds continue to come in off the lake. This would be a welcome change of pace for the time being; however, it looks like the heat may rebuild again by the middle of the month.
