Area students graduated and/or have been recognized for the following academic achievements:

Purdue University Academic Honors

The following local students have earned academic honors at Purdue University for the spring 2012 semester:

To earn honors, students must have had at least a 3.5 semester or cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Lewis University Dean's List

These following students were among those honored on the Lewis University Dean's List for spring semester 2012.

  • Algonquin resident Kathleen Nocchi was studying Computer Science at Lewis University.
  • Algonquin resident Raymond Lewandowski III was studying Air Traffic Control at Lewis University.
  • Algonquin resident Susan Thomas was studying Marketing at Lewis University.
  • Lake in the Hills resident Alyssa Fanella was studying Nursing at Lewis University.

To be eligible for this honor, students must have completed a minimum of 12 semester hours of credit with a grade point average of 3.25 out of a possible 4.0.

Bethel University Dean's List

Maureen Sleeting, a student at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minn., has been named to the Dean's List for academic excellence for the spring 2012 semester. Maureen is the daughter of John and Melissa Sleeting from Algonquin, IL.

The Dean's List honors students who achieve an outstanding scholastic record during a semester with a grade point average of 3.6 or greater.

Edgewood College Semester Honors

Katie Wendt of Algonquin has earned Semester Honors for the Spring 2012 semester at Edgewood College. Full-time students who achieve a 3.5 grade point 

Algonquin Teen Wins Kohl's Scholarship

Laura Saldivar, 17, of Algonquin was among 11 youth from the Chicago area that have been recognized by the Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program with $1,000 scholarships toward post-secondary education for making a positive impact in their communities through volunteerism. 

These winners qualify for one of Kohl’s 10 national scholarships, which will be announced at the end of July. 

Saldivar started Jacobs Safety Initiative, a student-led organization at her high school to educate youth on the importance of safe driving through mock car crash assemblies, speaking events, creating educational materials and more.

Engineering Scholars Program

Akshay Patil of Lake In the Hills participated in the Engineering Scholars Program (ESP) on the campus of Michigan Technological University this summer.

ESP is a weeklong investigation of careers in areas such as mechanical, computer, environmental, electrical, chemical, biomedical, civil, geological, and materials engineering, as well as related disciplines.

ESP is a highly competitive scholarship program that provides a chance for traditionally underrepresented high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors the opportunity to investigate careers in engineering and science.

Benedictine University Dean's List

Benedictine University proudly announces that 807 students were named to the Dean's List at Benedictine University for the Spring 2012 semester.

The Dean's List recognizes full-time students who achieve a 3.5 grade point average or above.

Among the students named to the Dean's List at Benedictine University for the Spring 2012 semester are:

Berklee Lollapalooza Endowed Scholarship

A partnership between Lollapalooza, one of the premier music festivals in the world, and Berklee College of Music, the leading college for contemporary music, has resulted in scholarship awards for two outstanding young musicians. Singer-songwriter Jenny Dinh, of Lake in the Hills, IL, has been awarded the Berklee Lollapalooza Five-Week Scholarship to attend the college’s summer program in July.

Edgewood College Graduate

Katie Wendt of Algonquin graduated from Edgewood College on May 20, 2012. Katie earned aBachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. Kathleen is the daughter of Cheryl Wendt.

Buffalo State College Dean's List

Mackenzi Jacobs, of Lake In The Hills, IL, has been named to the spring 2012 dean's list at Buffalo State. Jacobs is a childhood education and mathematics major.

To qualify, students must earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher and complete a minimum of 12 credit hours. 

Saint Mary's College Graduate

Michelle Medvecz has graduated from Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame, IN. Michelle, daughter of Sharon and David Medvecz of Algonquin, IL, received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education.

Luther College Dean's List

Kevin Kraus, Luther College vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college, has announced that Collin Richman, Luther College sophomore of Algonquin, Ill., was named to the 2012 spring semester Dean's List.

To be named to the dean's list, a student must earn a semester grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale and must complete at least 12 credit hours with 10 hours of conventional grades (A, B, C, D).

UW-Platteville Graduate

Adam Danowski, a Criminal Justice major from Lake In The Hills, IL, graduated in the May 12, 2012 commencement ceremony held at University of Wisconsin-Platteville's Williams Fieldhouse. This May graduation is the largest graduation with 965 graduate and undergraduate students participating in the ceremonies.

Augustana College Graduate

831 students have been named to the Dean's List at Augustana College for the 2012 spring term. Students who have earned this academic honor have maintained a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a four-point scale for courses taken during the term.

  • Jeremy Gottardo from Algonquin, Ill., a sophomore majoring in liberal studies.
  • Danna Jensen from Algonquin, Ill., a junior majoring in environmental studies and geography.
  • Jacquelyn Schmidt from Algonquin, Ill., a senior majoring in English writing emphasis and theatre arts.
  • Bryan Zarek from Algonquin, Ill., a senior majoring in bioloyg and pre-medicine.
