Area Stores, Gas Stations Run Out of Ice

Jewel-Osco in Algonquin got more ice in early Tuesday but the five other stores and gas stations LITH Patch spoke to Tuesday were sold out.

Ice is a hot commodity these days.

With people scrambling to salvage food in fridges and freezers after Monday’s storm that still has hundreds of thousands without power in the Chicago suburbs, ice has been flying out of stores and gas stations.

Lake in the Hills Patch only found one area store Tuesday morning that still had ice:

  • , 103 S. Randall Road, Algonquin, received two pallets of ice Tuesday about 7:15 a.m. The store had run out of ice Monday afternoon.

Several other area stores and gas stations reported they still were waiting for ice to come in from their distributors:

  • , 101 N. Randall Road, Lake in the Hills, did not have ice Tuesday morning. The store sold four pallets of ice Monday, which amounts to 600 7-pound bags of ice and 200 22-pound bags of ice. It typically takes two days for the store to get new orders in after requesting more ice.
  • 1250 S. Route 31, Crystal Lake, does not have ice but said they might have some in today or tomorrow.
  • , 1305 Randall Road, Crystal Lake, does not have ice but might have more in later today.
  • GasMart, at Algonquin and Randall roads, does not have ice but said there might be more in later today or tomorrow.
