Algonquin Flood Damages Businesses, Some Remain Closed

Business, homeowners deal with loss while McHenry County starts cataloguing damage

DownTown Dogs ‘N’ More’s customers craving its hot dogs and gyros may have to wait a while, the restaurant is closed until further notice after Thursday’s flooding.

Owner Omar Razvi was not sure what was next for the restaurant at 107 S. Main St. in Algonquin after the basement flooded with sewage.

It was filled with standing water, which damaged a compressor and contaminated his inventory, he said.

A few doors down, Creekside Tap was still closed as of this weekend. The owners posted on Facebook that the bar needs to pump out the standing water from the basement and get approval from the Health Department to reopen.

Starting today, April 22, the Illinois Emergency Services Management Association (IESMA) will be evaluating the damage to assess the extent of flooded structures and property damage, McHenry County chairwoman Tina Hill said in a release.

Residents are encouraged to cooperate with these teams which, will in the end, aid you in the public assistance funding process, part of the disaster declaration process. Each team will have a credentialed representative that will identify them with McHenry County or the Emergency Management Agency, she said.

McHenry County also recommended the following website for assistance: Ready Illinois. The website provides information on their website regarding flooding recovery. Information on floodwater safety, common scams after a disaster and more can be found on Ready Illinois.
