22 Days, 22 Profiles

In recent weeks, the McHenry County Patch sites have been publishing profiles of area boys in need of mentors through Big Brothers Big Sisters and ran the last profile Monday.

Over the past 22 days, the McHenry County Patch sites have been running profiles daily of area boys in need of male mentors through Big Brothers Big Sisters.

The partnership allowed us to get the word out about the continuing need for male mentors through BBBS.

Many of the boys  — currently 23 of them — have been on the waiting lists for weeks and even months. They are looking for guidance from a role model, for someone to play sports with or simply someone to talk to.

It is a partnership we have been proud of. Encouraging volunteerism within a community is very important to Patch. We want to see our communities succeed and giving back is a big part of that.

Following our final profile Monday, we checked in with Big Brothers Big Sisters of McHenry County to see if they had heard a response from the community following the profiles. Katie Cook, intake specialist for Big Brothers Big Sisters of McHenry County, reported back that her organization saw the highest number of male inquiries in months.

That is great to hear! Even better to hear is that of those, five have taken the next step to fill out the paperwork to become a Big Brother.

A huge kudos to all of you who took that step!

And to anyone who is thinking about becoming a “Big” to a “Little,” check out our profiles. And give Big Brothers Big Sisters of McHenry County a call 815-385-3855 if you are interested in becoming a mentor.
