McHenry County College L.E.A.D. Program – Making a Difference

Making a Difference via Leadership

I had the honor of spending a couple of hours with the McHenry County College student L.E.A.D. Program participants and walked away inspired by the commitment to authentic leadership the students demonstrated.  Therefore, I decided to deviate from my regular Financial Blog to focus the attention on these young leaders from our community.

Leadership Education And Development (L.E.A.D.) Program is focused on developing leaders from within our community college student body to drive positive social change in our community.  I presented and discussed “Leading from Your Soul” to these students. The grasp of philosophy and humanity these young leaders demonstrated touched my heart.  The questions they ask, the insightful discussion about transcending our differences and focusing on a win-win societal outcome and the passion with which these students embrace ethical leadership are all lessons for those of us across this county. These students understand that what unites us and what is common across all of us is far more powerful and precious than the superficial differences.  They also understand the need to focus on verbal and non-verbal communication, emotional intelligence, and the art of responsible negotiation as a means of demonstrating authentic leadership.

Last Friday, April 6, 2012 was their program completion breakfast and I did not want to miss the opportunity to spend another hour with this inspiring group of students and their administrative mentor, Talia Koronkiewicz.  Missing from the picture is the interim mentor George Fejt.  These L.E.A.D. program sessions are open to the community sometimes and I encourage you to attend when possible to spread the wealth of learning and improve our community life.
