The D300 Foundation for Educational Excellence Presents a Very Special "Visiting Artist Grant, Jenny Learner – Encaustic Workshop" at the Hampshire High School

The D300 Foundation for Educational Excellence is proud to announce its third "Visiting Artist Grant" for District 300, November 13 -15, Hampshire High School in Hampshire, Illinois.

CARPENTERSVILLE – The D300 Foundation for Educational Excellence is proud to announce its third “Visiting Artist Grant" for District 300. On November 13 -15, Hampshire High School in Hampshire, Illinois, will host, "The Visiting Artist, Jenny Learner".  Learner will conduct a three-day workshop, for select art students from each of the three D300 high schools: Dundee-Crown, Hampshire and Jacobs.

When Jenny Learner brings her workshop to Hampshire High School, she will introduce a form of art that is centuries old.  Jenny provides an education for her students that will detail how Greek encaustic artists began their craft as long ago as the 5th century B.C.  According to Leaner, the history of encaustic art began in ancient Greece, where shipbuilders used beeswax and resin to seal the joints and waterproof the hulls of their vessels.

Jenny provides not only an art education, but a history lesson as well.  Her workshop provides a way for her to share a 30-minute version of the movie “Vanishing of the Bees,” and allows time for a group discussion of this medium.
