Through a generous donation from Target, the D300 Foundation brings a new program developed by the Elgin Symphony Orchestra musicians to the 4th grade elementary students all across the district.

Through a generous donation from Target, the D300 Foundation brings a new program developed by the Elgin Symphony Orchestra musicians to the 4th grade elementary students all across the district.  This event will be hosted by Dundee Crown High School in Carpentersville on January 22 & 23.  Performances are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. on both days.

The students will be introduced to three of the instrument families within a symphony orchestra: strings, woodwinds, and brass.  Each of the Apollo Trio musicians will perform on various instruments within each family to demonstrate the similarities and differences between them.

This exciting event is sure to inspire our school district’s young future musicians.  The Foundation would like to thank Beth Wood – District 300 Music Team Leader / Orchestra Teacher, Mike Storer – Band Teacher, Janice Beagley – Orchestra Teacher, and Ms. Lynn McCarthy, Dundee Crown High School Principal, for all their hard work and cooperation.  This presentation was a huge undertaking, and these D300 educators did an outstanding job of organizing the whole event.

Beth Wood, Carpentersville Middle School Orchestra Teacher said, “We hope that this will give students another experience with learning about some of the instruments that they will get an opportunity to learn at their school, beginning in their 5th grade year.” Wood goes on to say, “Numerous studies have proven how involvement in music carries over into every part of a student’s life and academic successes. The Elgin Symphony Orchestra provides outstanding experiences through their programs.”
