D300 Foundation, Algonquin Commons Partner to Celebrate the Arts

The Annual Algonquin Commons Art Fair will also be host to the Annual D300 Foundation Instrument Drive.

As public schools suffer more than ever before due to the faltering economy, the District 300 Foundation for Educational Excellence is working to help raise awareness for important programs that are being threatened, through popular community events.

On September 24th and 25th, the D300 Foundation will partner with the Algonquin Commons Shopping Center for the third year in a row for two exciting events that are sure to be crowd pleasers.  This year, the 3rd Annual Algonquin Commons Art Fair will also be host to the 2nd Annual D300 Foundation Instrument Drive.

The Art Fair will feature many different mediums of art for sale by local and surrounding area artists, in addition, the art fair will also feature a special D300 student art exhibit. The 2nd Annual Instrument Drive will be accepting new and gently used instruments to stock District 300’s “lending library,” for middle school students interested in music education.

The Art Fair will be located between Cheeseburger in Paradise and the Thirsty Whale restaurants in the Algonquin Commons Shopping Center on Saturday, September 24th from 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, September 25 th, from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. All proceeds from this event will benefit all the District 300 schools by helping fund grants through the D300 Foundation for Educational Excellence.

Instrument donations will be accepted at the D300 Foundation tent located outside of the Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurant. With each donation, donors will receive two free raffle tickets for a special raffle prize donated by one of the participating artists.

Carpentersville Middle School music educator Michael Kasper said, “We are truly thankful for the community support that drives our music programs. ” Kasper goes on to say, “The D300 Foundation Instrument drive is reliable and successful.  Their efforts have meant EVERY D300 student wanting to be involved in music has an opportunity to enroll.”

Experts agree that music helps develop the essential skills needed to succeed in the 21st Century workforce: critical thinking, creative problem solving, teamwork, and more.  By donating an instrument or participating in the Art Fair you can help promote and support fine arts education in District 300.

The District 300 Foundation for Educational Excellence is a 501(c)3, non-profit organization, committed to enhancing and extending learning opportunities in all D300 schools through school, community and business partnerships.  Since the D300 Foundation was founded in 2002, it has awarded nearly one half million dollars in local educational project grants – all made possible by private donations and special fundraisers.
