Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Food Pantry: Leadership Changes Begin

The Algonquin / Lake in the Hills Food Pantry begins a new chapter with a new President and a new location.

With the new home of the ALG / LITH Food Pantry at 1113 Pyott Road in Lake in the Hills now in its final phase - Dick Hoferle, the founding President since 2000, has decided to step down and pass the torch to a new leader - Kathy Mountain.  Dick has successfully managed the build out of both the original location of the Food Pantry on Oak Street and the new location on Pyott Road, and he believes that this is a good time to “pass the torch” as the Pantry moves into the future.  However, Dick will remain a board member and will continue to provide his knowledge and expertise as he serves out the remainder of his term.

Kathy Mountain joined the Board in 2009 as a result of her participation in the 2008 - 2009 Ted Spella Leadership School.  Through this program, her team partnered with the Food Pantry to create a website, logo and the tag line "Be a Neighbor. Feed a Neighbor".  In addition to managing the website, she has also worked on linking community organizations such as AAYO and the Trails of Algonquin Swim Team with the pantry through annual food drives during the summer months when donations are typically low.

Mountain said, “Through the support of the community and many tradesmen, the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Interfaith Food Pantry officially moved into its new home on 1113 Pyott on April 14th, which allowed us to open the doors of the food pantry to clients on April 17th.”  Mountain goes on to say, “Dick has done a wonderful job guiding the pantry since its inception, and we find ourselves in our new home about two years ahead of schedule thanks to the overwhelming support of the community, trades and businesses who have donated their time, talent and creativity."
