Every Day is Father's Day at the Airport

I wanted to write a different story today after I had one done. Sunday is Father’s Day, a day where we thank the men in our lives that have guided us. For me it is a bit tougher to do because I have had many father figures in my life or guys that take the time to show me something new or give me guidance in a different way. There is no Mentor’s Day or Major Influence Day so I wanted to take Father’s Day and thank some of the guys here that have been a major help or influence over the past year.

In the past year a lot has changed for me, I went from working in an office that was a female agent with an entire female staff, and then me. Let me tell you, as a 26 year old guy, that’s the last position you want to be in. There is no one to talk sports with, no hobby that you can relate to, after a while you have to adapt or live a very lonely work life. Last August, I came over to Bob’s office here and we got the ball rolling. September 1st, my world changed around. I was in an all male office, with Bob’s daughter popping in regularly to help out, but mostly it was just the guys working.

Bob has been a great mentor and I find myself calling him as if I would call my own father whenever anything happens in my life. When my fiancé and I signed a lease for an apartment, I called Bob after I called my mom. Every step of the way lately, Bob has been there helping with advice and also giving tons of praise. It isn’t often you can find a boss that treats you so great and accepts you in like you are a family member.

Here is a funny story as an example of how I feel like a family member for Bob and his family. A few months back, Bob’s daughter started dating a new guy, instantly Bob suggested that myself and Bob meet this guy to see what type of person he is. At times, his daughter does feel like a little sister that you just double check on from time to time.

The office runs smoothly and there is so little friction it is amazing. At times, I feel like I am sitting in a genius laboratory because Bob and I will start thinking of an idea and then it just gets tossed around, added to, changed and everything just plays out right. I look forwards to my future here as I make major life changes next month with a wedding as well as moving and much more as time goes on. I am sure that Bob will be there continuing to be a cheerleader at times as well as a head coach at others giving me ideas that maybe I over looked.

I encourage fathers to bring their children out to the airport this weekend. Last night there was a dad that came out with two small children and the kids seemed to really love it. Sunday the weather is supposed to be decent enough to have some planes coming and going, so come on out.
