What's Under Construction by Sonic in Algonquin?

Two new stores are under construction on Randall Road in Algonquin.

A Patch reader recently asked, "What's being built by Sonic in Algonquin"?

The answer: a new Kay Jewelers and a Sleepy's mattress store, according to Algonquin village officials.

Russ Farnum, community development director for Algonquin, said both stores project a spring opening next to Sonic, located at 1090 S. Randall Rd. The buildings will sit in front of JCPenney, Toys 'R Us, TJ Maxx and Binny's Beverage Depot.

Kay Jewelers currently has a store at Spring Hill Mall in West Dundee. According to the company website, Kay Jewelers is the largest specialty retail jeweler in the world.

In 1916, brothers Sol and Edmund Kaufmann opened the first Kay Jewelers in the corner of their father’s furniture store in Reading, Penn., the store history reads.

Sleepy's is a privately-owned company with over 900 retail locations in 15 states, from Maine to North Carolina, and now Illinois, according to a Sleepy's blog post on Patch.
