Pancakes Galore at Burnt Toast

Annie and family dine at Burnt Toast in Algonquin

With Mother’s Day right around the corner, I thought it would be nice to review a breakfast restaurant. I love breakfast foods. I could eat breakfast any time, day or night. However, my kids think there is only one time of the day to eat breakfast and that is in the morning.

This week we dined at located at 2520 Bunker Hill Drive in Algonquin.

We arrived at 11 a.m. on Sunday and had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. After we were seated, we ordered coffee for the adults and orange juice for the kids. The coffee was strong and hot, just like I like it.

The kids ordered the Mickey Mouse pancakes. Once again, I was a little nervous about them ordering a food that had a face, but they assured me that they had no issues with eating Mickey Mouse’s face. My hubby ordered the Spanish Skillet with rye toast and I ordered the Ghirardelli Chocolate Chip Pancakes.

Our food arrived fairly quickly considering the time we waited for a table and how crowded the restaurant was. Everything came out as ordered and was cooked perfectly.

The kids said the Mickey Mouse pancakes were yummy. I was really surprised at how much they ate. Either they were starving or the pancakes were just that good.

The hubby said the Spanish Skillet was outstanding. The Spanish Skillet is a “skillet” filled with hash browns, chorizo, jalapenos, onions, tomatoes and cilantro topped with 2 eggs and salsa on the side. My pancakes were huge. Three enormous pancakes filled with Ghirardelli chocolate chips and topped with Ghirardelli Chocolate Syrup and whipped cream. These pancakes were amazing. I made a small dent in them and brought them home.  With the help of one of the kids we ate them for two days.  I could have probably fed a small village with just my leftovers.

The food at Burnt Toast was quite good. Serving sizes were large, our waitress was superb and the toast we ordered was not burnt.  We give Burnt Toast 4 out of 5 stars.

An update:  A few weeks ago, . Barley House is one of my favorite Algonquin restaurants and our meal at the time of my review was less than stellar.

I had the opportunity to dine there again this past weekend… this time, the food was out of this world good. We ordered a Cheddar Burger and the Monte Crisco, both were perfect. When you visit , make sure you order the Sweet Potato Fries. Holy Cow… perfectly delicious!
