Small Business Profile: Yoga Practice Heats Up Downtown Algonquin

Melt Pilates and Hot Yoga opened in May, and offers many workout classes including pilates, hot yoga and zumba.

Melt Pilates and Hot Yoga offers a variety of workout classes including pilates, hot yoga and zumba, with its new business downtown Algonquin at 123 S. Main St..

Melt Pilates and Hot Yoga opened in May of this year by Shannon Tampa, who has been in the industry for 15 years. Tampa said she wanted to open a business that combined a variety of services.

“I knew people were driving out far for hot yoga,” Tampa said. “I decided I would design the business around that, and offer different services from there.”

The goal for Tampa’s clients is for them to have “a strong body, focused mind and peaceful soul,” according to the business website. Tampa is a certified personal trainer, pilates instructor and piloxing instructor.

Melt Pilates and Hot Yoga has a team of instructors, who are also certified to instruct the other various classes.

“We wanted it to be a place where people enjoy coming because people need one hour of me time each day,” Tampa said. “We created a place for people to feel relaxed and comfortable while they have fun, but they are doing something healthy for themselves.”

The classes at Melt Pilates and Hot Yoga are multi-level so anyone is welcome to sign up.

“I want people to get used to it and get into the routine of it,” Tampa said. “And that is when you start to feel amazing.”

Tampa said her favorite class to teach is piloxing, because it’s new and no one has really experienced it before.

“Everyone is at a beginners level,” Tampa said.
