Cheeseburger in Paradise Closes; Fuddruckers Moving In

Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurant has sailed....new burger joint moving in.

Algonquin's Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurant closed its doors after its final serving last night, Sunday, Oct. 27.

The restaurant, named after Jimmy Buffet's "Cheeseburger in Paradise" song, is located at 1608 S. Randall Rd., in the Algonquin Commons.

A restaurant manager confirmed the closing on Monday, saying he and his staff learned of the restaurant's fate this past Friday night.

But where one cheeseburger departs, another burger takes over.

The restaurant location will be converted into a Fuddruckers over the next four weeks, and the former employees will have the opportunity to re-apply for their jobs, the manager said.

The Fuddruckers chain has been in business since 1980, and aims to create the "world's greatest hamburgers" complete with homemade buns (baked at each restaurant, according to the company website).

Russ Farnum, community development director for Algonquin, said the change will be a good fit for the Algonquin Commons shopping area.

"We've known for some time that Fuddruckers bought the restaurant, and I think they will do very well at the Commons," Farnum said.
