The holiday season is upon us. 

For many, that will mean picking out a Christmas tree. In the past week, we asked readers over Twitter and Facebook where some of their favorite their favorite places are for picking out a Christmas tree.

Pine Apple Acres

  • Hours of operation: Christmas tree cutting will be available daily (except for Mondays) from 10 a.m. until dusk/4 p.m. and will continue through Dec. 19. An appointment must be made for those wishing to cut a tree after Dec. 19.
  • What’s available: Blue, white and Norway spruce trees and concolor, Douglas and Fraser firs.
  • Payment options: Only cash and checks accepted for payment.

Grandpa’s Christmas Tree Farm

  • Address: 13616 IL Route 176, Woodstock

  • Hours of operation: 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 25, 26, and 27; Dec. 3 and 4; and Dec. 10 and 11.
  • Price: All trees are $54
  • What else does Grandpa’s Tree Farm offer: According to Grandpa’s website, visitors can “Ride our tractor-drawn wagon into the pine forest and select your tree from thousands of beautiful pine trees. There are several dozen varieties of trees to choose from in every shape and size. We provide the saw, twine, and even the hot chocolate and coffee.”

AMVETS Tree Sale in Woodstock

  • Location/address: AMVETS Post 269, 12320 David Road, Woodstock
  • Hours of operation: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
  • Cost: Prices start at $30
  • What’s available: Balsam, concolor fir, Douglas fir, Fraser fir and Scotch pine.
  • For a Good Cause: A portion of the money raised for the trees will go to support veteran-related issues, according to a Triblocal article.

Platt Hill Nursery

  • Hours of operation: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
  • Cost: The nursery’s website lists prices starting at $19.95 for a table topper blue spruce and going up to $249.95 for an 11- to 12-foot Fraser fir.
  • Types of trees available: Fraser, balsam, Douglas and concolor fir trees; white and Scotch pine trees and blue spruce. 
  • Also for sale: Wreaths, artificial Christmas trees, poinsettias, fresh greens and other Christmas décor.
