UPDATE: Flooding Forces Metra to Close Portion of NW Line

A portion of the northwest Metra line between Crystal Lake and McHenry was halted Wednesday evening and it was unclear late Wednesday afternoon if service would be available Thursday. 

Flooding closed the portion of the northwest line and also lead to several delays along the northwest line Wednesday. 

Metra will make an extra stop in Fox River Grove Wednesday evening to accommodate commuters, according to the Metra website. 

More updates on the Metra McHenry Sub-District can be found on the Metra website. Metra is expected to update with more information late Wednesday.

UPDATED EARLIER WEDNESDAY: Some Metra trains on the northwest line are moving again after delays this morning due to the weather. 

Meanwhile, Metra has closed service between McHenry and Crystal Lake due to flooding, and its unclear at this point when service will resume in that area, according to the Northwest Herald. 

Here is an update on when trains, which had been stopped in Barrington, are expected to arrive in the city: 

  • #620, scheduled to arrive Chicago at 8:01 a.m., operating approximately 125 minutes late.
  • #624, scheduled to arrive Chicago at 8:26 a.m., operating approximately 120 minutes late.
  • #630, scheduled to arrive Chicago at 8:41 a.m., operating approximately 91 minutes late.
  • #634, scheduled to arrive Chicago at 8:55 a.m., operating approximately 85 minutes late.
Outbound trains are also back running after the delays. 
  • Outbound Train #609, scheduled to arrive Harvard at 9:20 a.m., is operating approximately 31 minutes behind schedule. 
  • Train #611, scheduled to depart Chicago at 9:11 a.m. and arrive Crystal Lake at 10:25 a.m., is on the move and operating 40 minutes behind schedule due to late arrival of equipment.

UPDATED EARLIER WEDNESDAY: Weather conditions have lead to delays today on Metra's Northwest line. 

According to an update at 7:20 a.m. on the Metra website, the following northwest line trains are presently stopped and operating late due to weather conditions: 
  • Train #608, scheduled to arrive Chicago at 7:17 a.m., stopped near Crystal Lake operating approximately 85 minutes late.
  • Train #610, scheduled to arrive Chicago at 7:22 a.m., stopped near Edison Park operating approximately 25 minutes late.
  • Train #616, scheduled to arrive Chicago at 7:55 a.m., stopped near Cary operating approximately 40 minutes late.
  • Train #620, scheduled to arrive Chicago at 8:01 a.m., stopped near Cary operating approximately 45 minutes late.
  • Train #624, scheduled to arrive Chicago at 8:26 a.m., stopped near Cary operating approximately 30 minutes late.
  • Train #603, scheduled to arrive McHenry at7:30 a.m., stopped near Cary operating approximately 30 minutes late.
Updates will be posted on the Metra website as soon as the trains resume operation.

ORIGINAL POST: A northwest line Metra train is stopped near Pingree Road in Crystal Lake due to weather conditions, according to the Metra website. 

It is unknown when train 608, which was scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 7:17 a.m., will be up and running again. Track inspectors are expected to investigate the conditions and Metra will update with more information as it becomes available.
