Only Delivers Game Winning Shot

The Huntley boys basketball team wins a thrilling 1-point game over Valley Division rival Dundee-Crown.

Junior guard Bryce Only of Huntley spent most of the first half on the bench in foul trouble as the Red Raiders fell behind Dundee-Crown, 24-14 at halftime.

Only stepped up big though in the final seconds as he took the ball downcourt and hit the game-winning basket over two Charger defenders to give Huntley a thrilling 41-40 home victory.

The victory clinches at least a share of the FVC Valley Division title for the Red Raiders who are now 10-0 in the Valley and 21-2 overall.

Everything was going Dundee-Crown's way in the first half as they nailed several 3-pointers and limited Huntley to one shot on seemingly every possession.  The Raiders shot just 6-for-23 (26%) in the first half.

The Chargers came out and scored a 3-pointer to start the second half and grab their biggest lead of the game at 13.  Huntley then went to work on the offensive glass and began to chip away at the DC lead. By the end of the third quarter they had cut the lead to just 4 at 31-27.

Amanze Egekeze pulled Huntley to within a point, 33-32 with a rebound and putback.  Amanze led all scorers with 18 points and he also had 12 rebounds and 4 blocked shots.

Dundee-Crown answered with a 3-point play to go up 36-32.  Justin Frederick (8 points) then scored 4 points sandwiched around another DC basket to make the score 38-36 in favor of the Chargers.

Troy Miller gave Huntley its first lead since early in the game when he hit a 3-pointer to put the Raiders up 39-38. Huntley then came up with a loose ball and called timeout.

Huntley was in the double-bonus and just wanted to get the ball into the hands of Miller so he could get fouled and win the game at the line.  Dundee-Crown had other ideas as they applied full court pressure and forced Miller into a turnover which they converted into a layup and a 1 point lead at 40-39.

Miller was called for an offensive foul on Huntley's next possession and Huntley was forced to foul to get the ball back. The Chargers Brandon Rodriquez went to the line with 14 seconds to go to shoot a one-and-one. He missed the free throw and Frederick rebounded for the Red Raiders and quickly got the ball to Only.

In the three games these two teams have played this year, the Red Raiders have won all three games by a total of 11 points!

Only finished with 6 points and Jake Brock added 5 for Huntley.
