Photo Gallery: Students Perform 'Wizard of Oz'

The 'Wizard of Oz' musical opened at Crystal Lake South this weekend, with shows also scheduled for this Friday and Saturday.

Crystal Lake South's production of opened Friday night to a packed house. 

With more than 80 students in the cast, the musical also boasted a cast of 31 munchkins from Crystal Lake elementary schools. 

The musical continues next weekend, with shows Friday and Saturday from 7 to 10 p.m.

Director Ben Stoner fondly remembered watching the 1939 MGM film during the annual television broadcast of the movie. 

"My design team, and I have tried to capture Dorothy's dream in a way that illuminates this idea: Kansas is never far away, but she must find her way back through the challenges and discoveries that Oz throws at her," Stoner wrote in his director's letter.
