Voices of the Land seeks performers

The Land Conservancy of McHenry County is seeking participants and performers for Voices of the Land, an evening of song, music, storytelling, theater, film, poetry and other spoken word arts.

The event will be held Friday, September 23rd from 6:30-9:30 pm at the historic Starline Gallery in Harvard. The setting will be reminiscent of a casual coffeehouse, with coffee, hot tea and sweets served.

The event is planned in conjunction with the Art of the Land Visual Art Show and benefit which runs that evening and the following night, September 24th.

Voices is an opportunity for area residents to share their creative expressions, whether in the form of music, storytelling, poetry, spoken word, film or other media inspired by the local landscape.

“There are so many creative people in McHenry County who draw their inspiration from the natural beauty that surrounds them. We wanted to provide area artists a venue to share their creativity through forms other than visual art.”
said Jim May, TLC Board Member and event emcee. May, co-founder of the Illinois Storytelling Festival, is in charge of programming for this year’s event.

Those interested can send an email to cperrone@ConserveMC.org including their name, contact information, description of the piece to be shared, and approximate length of the piece.

This year’s program will also feature conversations with several of the landowners who have worked with TLC over the years who will share their stories about the land and their particular paths to making a commitment to conservation.

Tickets to the Art of the Land events are just $20 in advance, and are good for both Friday and Saturday nights. Saturday’s event will include food, drink, music, and a silent auction to benefit the Land Conservancy’s land preservation mission. Thirty percent of all art sales will be donated to TLC by the participating artists.
