A winter storm warning has been issued for all of McHenry County Tuesday and is expected to affect morning and evening rush hour traffic.

The winter storm warning will take effect at 3 a.m. Tuesday and continue through midnight, according to the National Weather Service.

Between four to eight inches of new snow accumulation is expected in Algonquin during the day Tuesday and another additional one to two inches of new snow is expected for Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service.

There will be a chance of blowing snow in the afternoon and into Tuesday night with wind gusts reaching as high as 30 mph, according to the NWS.

Light snow is expected to start Monday night and will become more intense Tuesday morning. Snowfall accumulation is expected to be the most intense from late Tuesday morning through the early evening hours, falling at a rate of one to 1 1/2 inches per hour, according to the NWS.

The snow accumulation coupled with the blowing snow is expected to make travel dangerous, especially for Tuesday's evening commute, according to the NWS.
