Welcome Home Captain Richard Plettau with a Surprise Celebration

Join The Patriot Guard Riders and Algonquin Commons on September 3 at 1:30 p.m.

The Patriot Guard Riders and Algonquin Commons will welcome Captain Richard Plettau back from a yearlong tour of duty in Iraq with a surprise homecoming celebration on Saturday, September 3.

Captain Plettau will arrive at approximately 1:30 p.m. in the parking lot in front of New York & Co and William Sonoma where he will be greeted by family, friends, neighbors and classmates.

Captain Plettau will fly into O’Hare International Airport at noon on Saturday, September 3. He will be escorted to Algonquin Commons by the Patriot Guard Riders and the Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Fire and Police Departments. His planned arrival time is approximately 1:30 p.m.

After the surprise welcome, Algonquin Commons will host a celebration in honor of Captain Plettau, including:

- A cookout featuring menu items from Cheeseburger in Paradise.

- A stage set for speeches and comments from attendees.

- Two Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Fire Department ladder trucks displaying a large American flag.

- The McHenry County Fallen Trailer, paying tribute to local fallen soldiers.

- The participation of Community Unit School District 300 (CUSD300) representatives, including School Board President Anne Miller, Chief Technology Officer Eric Willard and Jacobs High School Principal Ami Engel.

About Captain Richard Plettau

Captain Plettau is an Algonquin native and a graduate of Jacobs High School. He entered active duty in 2008 after completing his bachelor’s degree at Northern Illinois University. Captain Plettau is the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with Combat Star, Overseas Service Ribbon, National Defense Medal, Global War on Terror Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Order of St. George Black Medallion and the George C. Marshall Army Officer's Training Corps Award (2008).
