The Weekend Planner: Pub Crawl, Pet Reunion

Call the babysitter and leave the kiddies at home – this weekend's events contain adult-only fun, including a pub crawl and a metal band concert.

Where/When: , 401 Country Club Road, Crystal Lake. Friday, August 5 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.      

Why go: Take pleasure in a cultured evening of art, music and refreshments in the beautiful and historic Dole Mansion. Tours of the mansion will be held, as well as a cash bar, art for sale and a partial showing of the Portrait in Print Collection.

Where/When: , 9027 Haligus Road, Lake in the Hills. Saturday, August 6 at 9 a.m.           

Why go: Show off your doggy’s disc skills at Bark Park. Participants will compete in a distance/accuracy event, where dog/thrower teams will score points by the dog catching a disc in a scoring grid marked on the ground. All are welcome to come watch as well!

Where/When: , 200 Applebee St., Barrington. Saturday, August 6 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Why go: Enjoy an afternoon visiting the local pubs of Barrington. The crawl starts at Chessie’s 111 Grille, and tickets include shuttle transportation to the other bars, a pub crawl t-shirt and specials at the visited establishments. Tickets can be purchased online, or at McGonigal’s Pub or 111 Grille.

Why go: Bring the whole family – including your furry adoptees – to Animal House Shelter’s 4th Annual Pet Reunion. Humans and canines alike will enjoy entertainment and demonstrations, including K9 demos by the McHenry County Sheriff, dog agility demos, low cost vaccines and microchipping, pet vendor booths, caricature artist and face painting, pet photographer, food and beverages, shelter gear for sale, bounce house and dunk tank, kids games, contests, food and drinks and more.

Pricing: Free admission.     

 

Where/When: , 96 Washtenaw St., Algonquin. Saturday, August 6 from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. 

Why go: Attetion light-rock fans: this concert is not for you. Cover bands will play tribute to famous metal bands, including Ozzy Osbourne, Iron Maiden, Patnera, Motorhead and AC/DC, at the festival. Tickets are available to adults age 18 years old and up, and are $12 in advance or $15 at the door.

Why go: The Lake in the Hills Police Department hosts a Car, Truck & Motorcycle show as part of National Night Out Against Crime. The fun starts at 10 a.m. with a lights and sirens parade, featuring emergency vehicles from the Chicago area, then continues at Sunset Park with the car show activities, including a Whack-A-Car booth for charity, a drunk driving and roll over simulator, precision driving demonstration, a raffle and more.
