Temperatures Fall Below Freezing For the First Time this Season

The area saw temperatures drop as low as 27 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Much of the area got a chilly start to this work week. 

At the DuPage County Airport in West Chicago temperatures dropped down to 27 degrees as of 5:52 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. Rockford also saw temps below freezing this morning as did several areas throughout the Chicagoland area, according to the Chicago Tribune. 

For Chicago, the average first freeze of the season occurs on Oct. 15, according to the National Weather Service. For Rockford, the average date is Oct. 7.

Warmer temperatures are expected as the week goes on. 

Temperatures are expected to be in the 50s or 60s all week in Algonquin and Lake in the Hills with overnight lows not dipping below 35 degrees.
