If you have a favorite performer amongst the top 10 in Suburban Chicago’s Got Talent, today is the day you can vote for who you think should make it to the top 5.
And if one of those favorites is either 18-year-old AJ Lubecker or Shane Lubecker, 16, of Algonquin, you’ll be in good company.
The boys’ parents, Carolyn and Jack Lubecker, are extremely proud of their sons, as all parents would be.
But when asked if they are shocked both of their boys are vying for a chance to get on television to showcase their talents-both say ‘no’.
“Both of the boys are very passionate, and determined,” said Carolyn Lubecker. “The arts have been a very strong influence in our family, so this wasn’t completely surprising.”
The boys’ father, Jack Lubecker, says both AJ and Shane devote a lot of time, and hard work to perfect their very different crafts.
“They’ve always been very comfortable around people due to our big family, and from when my wife owned a dance studio; even as little kids they were producing creative videos of themselves,” Jack Lubecker said.
As far as sibling rivalry goes, both parents say the competition between their sons is a healthy one.
“Going into this, we knew it would be a possibility that Shane and AJ could go head-to-head, but their heads are on right so no matter what happens, this will be a great experience for both of them,” said Jack Lubecker.
“They [AJ and Shane] are very close, and are used to playing on the same team- they are rooting for one another,” Carolyn said. “But if they both make it into the top 5, I know they each secretly will want themselves to win!”
The ‘Fan Favorite’ vote that starts today will not only win the chosen one a trip for two from Fun Jet Vacations, it also will guarantee that person makes it into the top 5.
The announcement of the final top 5 contestants could come as early as the end of this week, but we're not quite sure, Lubecker said.
The winner, which will be announced August 11 at Taste of Arlington Heights, will be decided based on the August 5 competition at Metropolis in Arlington Heights.
The grand prize is an expense paid trip to audition for NBC’s America’s Got Talent.
