Severe Thunderstorm Watch in Effect; Heavy Storms Could Hit During Rush Hour

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for northeastern Illinois through 9 p.m. Monday with a line of heavy storms could hit the Chicago area during rush hour traffic, according to the National Weather Service.

Counties under the watch include: McHenry, Lake, Cook, Kane, Will and DuPage counties. 

A flash flood watch has also been issued for several counties throughout the area, including,  McHenry, Lake, Cook, Kane, Will and DuPage counties. 

Thunderstorms are expected to arrive this evening and are capable of producing torrential rainfall with two to three inches of rain possible by early Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service. 

This rain combined with the heavy rain that fell Monday morning could lead to flash flooding, which could cause roads to be closed and impassable some rises on area river, the National Weather Service reports.
