Readers Respond: Most Dangerous Intersections in Algonquin, LITH

We mapped out your suggestions for the most treacherous intersections in the area.

It should not come as a huge surprise that intersections along Randall Road are the most concerning for area motorists.

We recently reached out to readers on the Algonquin and Lake in the Hills Patch Facebook page to see which intersections they thought were the most dangerous. Many pointed to an obvious trouble spot, Algonquin Road and Randall Road, as the most treacherous intersection.

The intersection has made news in the past, ranking among the top twenty most dangerous intersection in the suburbs, according to a Chicago Sun-Times article from last spring.

Officials have taken note of this intersection with controversial plans in the works to implement a continuous-flow intersection. Village of Lake in the Hills officials have bucked this plan, worried it will draw traffic away from LITH businesses.

County transportation officials say the intersection could improve traffic flow through the congested intersection. The county is entering Phase II of the Randall Road improvement project, which include design work for the road project.

Readers also highlighted several less-publicized intersections along Randall. A handful of readers picked out Stonegate Road and Randall Road, located near the Wendy's in Algonquin, as the most difficult to navigate.

In particular, readers said making a left turn at the intersection was problematic.

"I wholeheartedly agree that there should be only right turns onto Randall from Stonegate," wrote Bre Koll, agreeing with earlier comments that pointed to left turns as dangerous at that intersection.

Miller and Randall roads was another intersection readers pointed to as treacherous.

"You can turn right and go towards Algonquin Road on a red light...and unless you drive a large vehicle, you are basically guessing if there is traffic coming," wrote Lianne Wojtanek. "I drive a small car. I can not see over the guard rail because of the slight hill but people just shoot out and cut people off all the time."

Steering away from Randall Road, another highly-publicized intersection made topped reader's concerns: Route 31 and Route 62 (Algonquin Road) in downtown Algonquin. Roadwork is currently underway on the Western Bypass, which is meant to relive traffic congestion at that intersection.

Another problem intersections, according to reader's comments, was Cary/Algonquin Road and Route 31.

"That is a very dangerous left turn off Cary/Algonquin on to 31," according to a Wendy Norton Adams
