LITH Population Up 22 Percent In Past Decade

The United States Census Bureau recently released updated population numbers.

While Lake in the Hills saw its most dramatic growth in the 1990s, the village is still growing.

Numbers recently released by the United States Census Bureau shows the 2009 population to be 29,704 — up 22 percent from the 2000 population of 23,152.

The growth has slowed a bit compared to the 1990s. Between 1990, when only 5,866 residents lived in the village, and 2000 Lake in the Hills added 17,286 residents to its population.

Today, there are over five times more people that live in LITH compared to 20 years ago.

Village officials do not expect much more growth for LITH because the landlocked village, which is surrounded by the communities of Lakewood, Crystal Lake, Cary, Huntley and Algonquin, does not have much more open land to build upon. It is expected the village can add another 5,000 to its population before it hits a growth wall. For more on estimates regarding LITH growth, visit our LITH Patch article.
