Why go: The new Disney movie classic Madagascar comes to life with a performance of the song “Move It, Move It” by King Julien. After the performance kids can meet King Julien, take a photo with him and learn the dance from the movie.

Why go: Geared towards older children (ages 7 to 11 welcome), this constellation class is the perfect low-key activity for a Friday night.
Pricing: Residents $9, non-residents $14; registration is required.
Where/When: , 1200 S. McHenry Ave., Crystal Lake. Friday and Feb. 25 at 7 pm, Saturday and 26 at 2 pm and 7 pm.
Why go: This classic production will keep kids and adults entertained with large-scale dance numbers, special effects, a real dog actor playing Toto and 31 elementary school students playing the Munchkins.
Pricing: $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors.
Where/When: Village of Algonquin, 2 S. Main St., Algonquin. Thursday from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm.
Why go: And now an event geared towards the younger crowd: kids ages 2 to 6 years old with a parent or guardian will enjoy learning about animals through crafts, games, stories and more.
Pricing: $5 to $6 per family
Where/When: McDonald Woods, Grass Lake Rd., Lake Villa. Saturday from 2 pm to 3:30 pm.
Why go: Enjoy nature in winter as a family while hiking and birdwatching at McDonald Woods. The area is known to have crows, chickadees, woodpeckers, nuthatches, pine siskins and owls.
