Library Encourages Residents to Get a Card

Number of library card holders has grown by thousands over the past decade

It’s National Library Card month.

And the folks at the Huntley Area Public Library are hoping you’ll join the growing number of residents with library cards.

They are holding several promotions and fun events to encourage people to sign up for a library card.

“We believe everyone should have a library card and be able to experience the amazing assets available to them,” said Doug Cataldo, the Huntley Area Public Library’s Marketing and Technology Specialist.  “National Library Card Month is the time of year when we celebrate the benefits of a library card, and encourage people that don’t have a card to get one, and find out what they are missing.”

Presently, the library has 25,130 library card holders.

That compares with 6,830 in December of 1999, Cataldo said.

One of the events the library is holding to increase the numbers even more is Libraryopoly.

You can pick up a Libraryopoly game board at the library now, and start collecting new game pieces around town.

You can visit up to 18 local businesses participating in the event to get tickets for the promotion. Bonus tickets are available by using the library services on the game board.

You can enter your tickets for a chance to win one of three Kindle eReaders.

The library also is offering a Kindle eReader as a prize for a Library Card Month it is hosting along with other local libraries and Algonquin Commons.
