Get Out - The Weekend Planner: Animal Hospital Open House, Live Music, Swing Dancing Saturday

Where/When: Dundee Animal Hospital, 2565 W. Algonquin Road, Algonquin. Sunday, June 26 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Why go: Tour the animal hospital’s offices, enjoy refreshments, meet the veterinarians, learn at the educational exhibits and demonstrations, and entertain the kids with face painting and teddy bear surgery. Human kids welcome, however please leave your furry kids at home.

Where/When: , 600 Harvest Gate, Lake in the Hills. Saturday, June 25 from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.          

Why go: Enjoy a “bit of Ravinia” in Lake in the Hills! This Saturday evening outdoor concert features the band Bopology, a tribute to Rat-Pack and swing-era music. Bring a blanket or lawn chair, purchase some food or drinks from the vendors then listen to the music under stars.    

Pricing: Free.

 

Where/When: , Community Room, 11419 S. Il Route 47, Huntley. Saturday, June 25 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Why go: Dance the night away at the Saturday Night Swing Dance hosted by the Huntley Park District. First learn the steps in a guided dance lesson from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Then practice your swing in open dancing from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Adult couples and singles ages 18 years old and up are welcome to attend.

Pricing: $5 per person at the door, cash only.

Where/When: , Main Beach, 300 Lakeshore Drive, Crystal Lake. Saturday, June 25, starts at 9 a.m.      

Why go: Enjoy a unique Crystal Lake tradition – the Cardboard Cup Regatta. Participants can make a cardboard boat in advance or at the event, then sail in different events. Prizes are awarded for the top finishers and in special “participation” categories inclding ugliest boat, most enthusiastic crew and most spectacular sinking. Spectators are in for a treat!

Where/When: , 50 Rotary Drive, Barrington. Saturday, June 25 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Why go: Smart Farms hosts tours of their gardens at Ron Beese Park in Barrington. All are welcome to come learn about their Veggie Share program, how they help local food pantries, volunteer opportunities, gardening techniques and more. Plus, you can bring your favorite zucchini dish to enter into the Zucchini Cook-Off.

Pricing: Free.

 

Where/When: Hosted by the , 445 Park Avenue, Cary. Saturday, June 25 from 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.    

Why go: Tour local resident’s spectacular gardens and enjoy a progressive dinner at the Cary Grove Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Garden Walk and Progressive Dinner. Tickets include transportation to the gardens in Barrington and Cary, with food and wine pairings and live entertainment at each stop. Advanced tickets are required to attend.
