Get Out - The Weekend Planner

Festivals, sidewalk sales and other special events this weekend are kid and family friendly.

Where/When: , 100 Jefferson St., Algonquin. Thursday, July 28 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday, July 29 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., Saturday, July 30 from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., Sunday, July 31 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (plus a fireworks display at at 9 p.m.)

Why go: This weekend festival is simply packed with events and performances. Activities include a carnival, dog & cat show, bake off, bags tournament, parade, social garden, Founders’ Run (1 mile, 5k and 10k events,) duck races and more, with a fireworks display capping off the weekend. Where/When: , 200 Applebee St., Barrington. July 28 – 31 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Why go: Browse the deals plus entertain the kids at the Barrington Ice House Mall Summer Sidewalk Sale. Events include a visit from Elmo, a sidewalk chalk contest, food vendors, a balloon artist, plus a performance by the Together Again Band. For event dates and times or more information, visit the Ice House Mall’s website.

Where/When: , 50 Rotary Drive, Barrington. Saturday, July 30 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.          

Why go: Kids will love seeing the big trucks, including fire engines, semis, dump trucks and more. Attendants can even climb in and explore some of the vehicles. Plus, The Juke Box Band performs.

Pricing: $2 per person at the gate. 

 

Where/When: The Square, Coral Street between Church and Woodstock Streets, Huntley. Saturday, July 30 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.     

Why go: Wagner’s Produce sponsors a Corn Boil at the Huntley Farmer’s Market. Enjoy a fresh treat, then shop the local vendors selling bread, gourment foods, jams, honey, fruits and vegetables, fresh eggs, flowers and more.  

Pricing: Free admission.

Where/When: , 13719 Harmony Road, Huntley. July 29, July 30, August 5 and August 6 at 7 p.m., July 31 and August 7 at 3 p.m.     

Why go: Enjoy a performance of the classic and quriky musical Bye Bye Birdie. The fun show is entertaining for adults and kids alike.

Pricing: Advance tickets: $15 for adults, $12 for children age 2-17, seniors age 62 and up and groups of 15 or more; Door tickets: $18 for adults, $14 for children age 2-17, and $15 for seniors age 62 and up and groups of 15 or more.    

 

Where/When: , 1900 S. Randall Road, Algonquin. Sunday, July 31 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.     

Why go: A performance by 7th Heaven, a high energy cover band, plus dining deals, children’s activities, giveaways and more will entertain the crowd. Stop by before the Founders’ Days Fireworks!
