Get Out: 9/11 Memorials Planned This Weekend

September brings fall festivals, back-to-school celebrations and memorials commemorating 9/11.

Where/when: , 701 Manor Road, Crystal Lake, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9.

Why go? The Sage holds a Back to School Family Night Bash. Kids and families can celebrate (or commiserate) the beginning of the school year with activities including archery, Frisbee golf, seminars with the nature specialist, carnival games, face painting, swimming, a free caramel apple and more.

Where/when: , 1170 Silver Lake Road, Cary, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10.

Why go? This local outdoor festival features classic fall activities, including hayrides, pony rides, a petting zoo, pumpkin patch, crafts and more. Fun for the whole family!

Pricing: $4 for children ages 1-2 years, $8 for children ages 3 and older, free for children younger than 1 and adults.

Where/when: , 400 Algonquin Road, Cary, 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10.

Why go? This annual event pits the against neighboring fire departments in competitions with the fire department’s hoses and equipment. Food and drinks are available for purchase as well, with all proceeds benefiting the Cary Firefighters Association’s Scholarship and Community Needs program.

Where/when: , 100 E. Station St., Barrington, from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10.

Why go? Singers Brad Cole and Jeff Libman, a.k.a. Check With Lucy, will perform at this outdoor concert series highlighting the best local talent. The band plays original songs with an “up-tempo new folk sound.”

Pricing: Free. 

Where/when: Barrington Memorial Park, Lincoln Avenue and Hough Street, Barrington, at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 11.

Why go? Commemorate this horrific day in American history at Barrington Memorial Park. Rep. Peter Roskam will be the keynote speaker at this remembrance ceremony. Seating is available starting at 8:15 a.m.

Pricing: Free.

Where/when: James C. Dhamer Town Square, Church Street and East Main Street, Huntley, at noon Sunday, Sept. 11.

Why go? Take an hour out of your Sunday to remember Sept. 11 at James C. Dhamer Town Square in Huntley. Featured speakers include religious leaders and Huntley Village President Charles Sass. Members of Huntley’s American Legion Hall, the Huntley Fire Department and the Huntley Police Department also will be in attendance, and Tom Nash will perform taps.
