At school, Kelly has been an instrumental part of the safe driving team. She has been president for the past two years and executes many activities to help decrease the risk of accidents among her peers.

Through a lesson in a video Kelly watched at school her sophomore year, she learned a new way of living—she learned to “pay it forward.”

After receiving acts of kindness, one bestows more acts of kindness onto others. Kelly has struggled with many knee and leg problems resulting in multiple surgeries and therapy sessions. She greatly appreciated every doctor, nurse, and therapist who worked on her through her difficulties.

Kelly’s way of giving back, is using these professionals as role models in pursuit of a degree in physical therapy. She wants to give to others what she received. Kelly wanted to begin immediately paying it forward.

Marian Central had just implemented a teen safe driving program after the school lost two students in a tragic car accident. She wanted to be involved with the program. Kelly did not want future students to go through the pain of losing a classmate through a car accident.

In the future, Kelly looks forward to seeing a difference she hopes she can make in patients’ lives. She looks forward to seeing the safe driving program she helped get going grow and a decrease in fatality statistics with teen car accidents. She cannot wait to get involved with new organizations on campus in the fall. Most importantly, she hopes to look back on her life and hope she made a difference in someone’s life.
