Five Holiday Events in Algonquin, LITH in Coming Weeks

Lake in the Hills Festival of Trees, Algonquin's Holiday Rock on the Fox and more.

As Christmas quickly approaches, several family-friendly holiday events are scheduled in Algonquin and Lake in the Hills in the coming weeks.

Nov. 30

  • District 158 will host its Fireside Feast this Friday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Marlowe Middle School, 9625 Haligus Road in Lake in the Hills. The fun family event includes a pasta buffet as well as photo opportunities with Santa Claus. Santa and Mrs. Claus, as well as several other holiday characters, will be on hand to visit with children and the District 158 faculty jazz band will provide the musical entertainment. Cost is $15 for adults, $10 for children 2 to 12 years old and the event is free for children 2 years old and younger. As of Monday morning, the fireside feast was almost sold out. For more information on purchasing tickets, visit the event's website. District 158 will also host its Breakfast with Santa on Dec. 1 (more information below).

Dec. 1

  • District 158 will host its annual Pancake Breakfast with Santa this Saturday and there are still some tickets available.
There will be two breakfast sessions held at Marlowe Middle School, 9625 Haligus Road: One will be from 8 to 9:30 a.m. while the second session is from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Tickets are $7 per person and are nearly sold out for the 8 to 9:30 a.m. session while there are a few more tickets still available for the 10 to 11:30 a.m. session. The District 158 website has more information on how to purchase tickets. The breakfast will include pancakes and french toast sticks, kids' crafts, holiday games, holiday music and photo opportunities with Santa.
  • The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Rotary Club will also host a Breakfast with Santa this Saturday. The breakfast will be held at 8 a.m. at Westfield Community School, 2100 Sleepy Hollow Road in Algonquin, and is free. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on hand to greet the children and for photo opportunities. Rotary Club Interact students will have games available for children to participate in.
  • Algonquin will host its Holiday Rock on the Fox from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1 at Riverfront Park, 201 North Harrison St. in Algonquin. A tree-lighting ceremony, candy cane hunt, ice sculpture demonstration and, of course, a visit from Santa and his friends will all be a part of this year's event.
The event is free. There will be bins available to drop off nonperishable food and new, unwrapped toys. All donations will be distributed to Algonquin charity groups that assist local families experiencing financial hardship, according to the village of Algonquin Facebook page.
The ice sculpture demonstration is new this year. Area residents were able to vote on the village's Facebook page on the type of sculpture they would like to see. A sculpture of a polar bear and penguins received the most votes.

Dec. 7

  • Bundle up and head out to the village of Lake in the Hills' annual Festival of Trees, which will kick off at 6 p.m. on Dec. 7 at village hall, 600 Harvest Gate, with the arrival of Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus on a fire truck. Santa and Mrs. Claus will take part in a tree-lighting ceremony before heading indoors to hear the Christmas wishes of area boys and girls. Photo opportunities with the couple will also be available.
There will be several Christmas trees lining village hall, which will be decorated by area organizations and businesses, and will remain on display through Christmas. Residents can "vote" for their favorite tree by placing non-perishable household items under the tree. The items will be donated to the Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Interfaith Food Pantry and the Grafton Township Food Pantry.
